Veronica is a 2017 Spanish horror thriller movie. It got fame when it was released on NETFLIX in February 2018. As soon as people watched the movie they started to call it the scariest movie of all the time. The fact that it is based on true events makes it more creepy.
It’s a story about 15-year-old girl Veronica who uses ouija board with her two friends Rosa and Diana on the day of the solar eclipse. She wanted to talk to her late father. When the solar eclipse starts the girls begin the seance. Something unexpected occurs, the lights start to flicker then veronica scream and passed out. She wakes up in the school nurse’s office who tells her she that she passed out due to iron deficiency. She goes home and starts experiencing paranormal activities.
In True Story
The movie is based on a true story about a girl named Estefania Gutierrez Lazaro, who lived in Madrid in 1992. The movie is loosely based on the true story as her father was alive and she uses the Ouija board to talk to the late boyfriend of one of her friends. But a teacher interrupted the seance and saw some kind of fog going in her mouth and nose.
After that, she begins to have seizure and hallucination. She often told her parents that she saw “evil” shadows in her room. Her parents took her to many doctors but none of them could find anything wrong with her. This continues for 6 months and one day she was found dead in her bedroom. Her death was completely unexplained.
Her parents started to experience the paranormal activities after her death like lights switching on and off, slamming doors. They also heard mysterious whispers. But it all stopped when they moved to a new house.
It was the first case of Spain in which police verified that it was a paranormal phenomenon because all the pieces of evidence and facts could not be explained. This police documentation and statements were also used in the climax of the movie.
Even though the movie is not an accurate account of what happened with Estefania but it is still a good horror movie with brilliant performances.
